Bridles of the Americas
By Ned and Jody Martin
Bridles of the Americas, vol 1: Silver Bridles will be published in the spring of 2010. This large volume (12" by 13.5") will include descriptions of the styles and origins of bridles used in Mexico as well as by Native Americans in the Southwest. There will be about 500 detailed color photographs of silver bridles as well as historic photos of such bridles in use. Winfield Coleman has painted stunning illustrations for this book. Bob Bauver has written extensively on the Navajo use of silver and the development of the Navajo style of bit and bridles, as well as those of the Southern Plains tribes. The second volume of this series will be published in 2011 and includes quilled, beaded and cloth bridles of the Northern Plains and Plateau. The 3rd volume will cover South American bridles, prison horsehair pieces, and vaquero, cowboy and buckaroo bridles.
